Harry Homewood, 21, charged with multiple counts following early morning attacks on two teenagers near Station Road East.
A Ramsgate man will stand trial next month after being charged with sexually assaulting two teenagers in Canterbury city centre.
The Charges
Harry Homewood, 21, from Augustine Road, faces four counts of sexual assault and two counts of assault following incidents in the early hours of Saturday, 14 March. The attacks allegedly occurred near Station Road East as the two teenage victims walked from the Rhodaus Town area.
According to the charges, Homewood allegedly approached the teenagers and attempted to strike up conversation before following them and carrying out the alleged assaults. The victims were also allegedly subjected to inappropriate comments during the ordeal.
Swift Response
The victims’ quick thinking proved vital. They alerted friends to what was happening, enabling officers to respond rapidly to the scene. Homewood was apprehended shortly after allegedly fleeing the location and arrested that morning.
He was charged the following day and appeared before Margate Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 16 March. The defendant was released on bail with strict conditions.
Court Date Set
The case will proceed to Canterbury Crown Court on Monday, 20 April 2026, where it will be heard before a judge and jury.
But police are still seeking witnesses. Anyone who saw the incidents or has relevant information is urged to come forward. Officers believe witness testimony could prove vital to the prosecution case.
Detective Inspector Sarah Mitchell, from Kent Police’s Public Protection Unit, said in a statement: “We take all reports of sexual assault extremely seriously and work tirelessly to bring offenders to justice while supporting victims throughout the process.”
Safety Concerns
The incidents have raised questions about late-night safety in Canterbury’s city centre. Station Road East serves as a busy gateway to entertainment venues and transport links.
What measures are in place to protect vulnerable people during the early morning hours when most venues have closed?
